Armed robbers on two bikes allegedly robbed over ₹50 lakh from a cash van in north-east Delhi’s Karawal Nagar area on Monday evening. A cashier sustained a bullet injury.
At around 4 p.m, cashier Rampath was crossing Loni border, along with a security guard and a driver, when they had to stop their vehicle because a bike was parked in the middle of the lane. When the guard got down to ask the rider, he told him the bike was not starting. At that moment, four men on two bikes appeared from behind, took the keys of the cash van and fired at Mr. Rampath and hit the guard with the pistol’s butt. The assailants then snatched the bag and fled the spot.
A PCR call was made after which Mr. Rampath was admitted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital for treatment.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (north-east) Ajit Kumar Singla said that a case of attempt to murder and robbery was registered and they were scanning CCTV footage of the adjoining areas to identify the criminals.
The police are also questioning employees of the cash collection firm to which the cash van belonged in order to ascertain if an insider is involved who may have tipped off the robbers.
