Pocharam inaugurates Telangana Horticulture Festival
For a healthy society, production and consumption of healthy food was a necessity, said Agriculture and Horticulture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy.
After inaugurating the ‘Telangana Horticulture Festival- 2017’ at Necklace Road, he went around the stalls exhibiting different types of food, including those grown by progressive farmers.
Mr. Reddy told the presspersons that it would be an ideal situation if people grew their own vegetables, in their own backyard, without using pesticides. This way, their vegetable needs would be met in a healthy manner, he said. The technical inputs were readily available with the State Horticulture Department for dissemination among people who needed guidance, he pointed out.
The Minister said it was imperative for Telangana to grow its own vegetables and fruits in the State itself. Horticulture was also profitable if large number of people took to it. The 10,800 revenue villages in the State would be split into 3,600 units to set up Village Farmers’ Coordination Committees from September 1, he said.
Among others present at the inaugural of the five-day horticulture exposition that would be open for public till August 31 were MLAs Madan Mohan Reddy (Narsapur) and Bhupal Reddy (Narayankhed), Dairy Development Corporation Chairman Loka Bhuma Reddy, former Deputy Speaker Harishwar Reddy, Secretary (Agriculture) C. Parthasarathy and Horticulture Commissioner L. Venkatrami Reddy.
